Our Honorary Professor, Michael Kirby AC,
will be speaking at two events co-organized by the Faculty of Law, The
University of Hong Kong in October 2014. On
2 October 2014, Mr Kirby will be speaking at a High-Level Roundtable on Gender
Identity, Rights and the Law. Co-organized by the UNDP, Centre for Comparative and Public Law and
the Open Society Foundation, the event will look at some of the problems facing transsexual people living in Hong Kong and
in the Asian region. On 17 October 2014,
Mr Kirby will be delivering a public lecture at HKU on “The Report of the UN Inquiryon Human Rights in North Korea: International Law Meets a Moment ofTruth”. Michael Kirby was the chairperson
of the Commission of Inquiry that wrote the report. The next issue (expected in early 2015) of
the Faculty’s Asia-Pacific Journal on Human Rights and the Law will feature a special section on the North Korea
report.
