HKU Law Welcomes Prof. Yu Fan

Welcome to Prof. Yu Fan, who joins the Faculty of Law as an Assistant Professor.

Yu is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Data, AI & Law at the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law and School of Computing and Data Science. He is also a PhD candidate in Legal AI at ETH Zurich and an associated researcher at the ETH AI Center. His research lies at the intersection of law, computational social science, machine learning, natural language processing, and data science. His work has been published at leading AI and NLP venues, including the International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR), International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing (EMNLP), and Conference of the European Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics (EACL). Yu holds a Master of Arts in Sociology from Freie Universität Berlin, with a focus on computational social science; a Professional Certificate in Artificial Intelligence from Stanford University; and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Sociology from Universität Bielefeld, with a focus on theoretical philosophy.

Welcome the new Global Academic Fellow Dr Xiangyi Ren!

Welcome to Dr Xiangyi Ren who joined the Faculty of Law as a Global Academic Fellow. Dr. Xiangyi (Tami) Ren is a socio-legal scholar studying legal and policy change in Mainland China. Her research examines how legal knowledge is produced, circulated, and transformed through the interaction between court operations and lawmaking processes. Her current research examines the operation of specialized tribunals and courts, public interest litigation regimes, and how specialized judicial institutions reshape governance in China. A common intellectual thread of her work is analyzing how legal institutions mediate interactions among legal, technical, and political knowledge, as well as investigating how individuals and organizations construct, interpret, and deploy legal rules in practice.

Xiangyi received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Chicago, an MSc in Politics of China from SOAS University of London, and a B.A. in Political Science and International Studies from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She was awarded the 2025 Surrency Prize by the American Society for Legal History. Her work has appeared in the Journal of Contemporary China, Law and History Review, and China Law and Society Review. Prior to joining the University of Hong Kong as a Global Academic Fellow, she served as a Social Sciences Teaching Fellow at the University of Chicago.

Welcome the new Global Academic Fellow Dr Marianne Von Blomberg!

Welcome to Dr Marianne Von Blomberg who joined the Faculty of Law as a Global Academic Fellow. Marianne von Blomberg is a Global Academic Fellow (postdoctoral researcher) at the Law and Technology Centre of the University of Hong Kong. She also participates in a research project on corporate social responsibility regimes and techno-regulation in Europe and China at the Bern University of Applied Sciences. Her work uses qualitative empirical methods to examine how public regulation of and through digital technologies evolves across China and the European Union.

Her research focuses on social credit systems and related forms of assessment-based governance in China and beyond, as well as on techno-orientalism in media and policy discourse. In her current work, she expands her work on regulation and governance to include processes of technical standardization as key sites where regulatory logics are developed and negotiated.

She completed her PhD at the University of Cologne, funded by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation and the Fritz Thyssen Foundation. The project investigated how evolving social credit systems strengthen, weaken and transform the law in China and is grounded in three years of fieldwork and analyses of official documents.  Her focus on modes of public regulation and their transformation has led her to observe the processes and fora of technical standardization in her postdoctoral work.

Beyond research, Marianne contributes to public and policy-facing engagement on PRC law in Europe through advising EU officials, teaching, and serving as the editor of the blog of the European Chinese Law Studies Association (ecls.eu), and co-organizing its conferences and summer schools. Marianne holds an LL.M. from Zhejiang University in Hangzhou and a BA in Communication and Cultural Studies from Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen. She has been a visiting scholar at the City University of Hong Kong School of Law and has professional experience with several news outlets, the Jingling Law Firm (criminal defense), the Volkswagen Group, and the German Embassy in Ottawa.

HKU Law Welcomes Prof. Michael Tsimplis

Welcome to Prof. Michael Tsimplis, who joins the Faculty of Law as a Professor.

Professor Michael (Mikis) Tsimplis has been with the Faculty of Law since July 2026. Before joining HKU Mikis worked for CityU (2018-2026). Before 2018 Mikis worked in various academic and leadership positions for the University of Southampton and before that for the UK Natural Environment Research Council. He has taught various courses, including Admiralty Law, Admiralty Enforcement, Charterparties, Bills of Lading, Energy and Environment Law, Law of International Sales, Legal Concepts, Insurance Law, Private International Law, Commercial Contracts, Legal Concepts Law of the Marine Environment in academic and professional courses around the world. Mikis undertakes research in marine, maritime, commercial, and environmental law as well as keeping an interest in oceanography and environmental science. He has led and contributed to various international and interdisciplinary projects and has published mainly in law, oceanography and sea level rise, with extensive interdisciplinary collaborations. He has been involved in the quality assessment and accreditation of university departments and the evaluation of research proposals for national and international bodies. 

HKU Law Welcomes Prof. Valeria Vázquez Guevara

Welcome to Prof. Valeria Vázquez Guevara, who joins the Faculty of Law as an Assistant Professor.

Valeria researches and teaches across the areas of international law, law-and-humanities, and land/property law. Valeria’s research engages with law-and-humanities methodologies to address questions of international law, its institutions, contestations, and geopolitical implications, especially between North-South and South-South actors. The research builds on Valeria’s personal and professional experiences in international development and peacebuilding projects in El Salvador, Spain, the Basque Country, and South Africa.

Valeria is the author of Truth Commissions and International Law (Cambridge University Press, in press). The book examines how Truth Commissions deal with the plurality of (rival) accounts that exist across communities to establish an authoritative account of the past. It expands on her doctoral thesis at Melbourne Law School, which won the University of Melbourne Chancellor’s Prize for Excellence in the PhD Thesis and Melbourne Law School’s Harold Luntz Prize for Best Doctoral Thesis. Valeria’s next major research project focuses on the historical and contemporary relationship between ASEAN and international law, with a particular focus on land tenure issues.

Valeria serves as member of the executive committee of the Law, Literature and Humanities Association of Australasia, and as co-convener of the Critical Approaches to International Law Interest Group of the European Society of International Law (ESIL). Previously, Valeria has served as co-chair of the History and Theory of International Law Interest Group of the Australian and New Zealand Society of International Law (2022-2025), and as Managing Editor and Editorial Board member of the Australian Feminist Law Journal (2021-2023).

HKU Law Welcomes Prof. James Zeng

Welcome to Prof. James Si Zeng, who joins the Faculty of Law as an Associate Professor.

Prof. Zeng works on corporate law, the Chinese legal system, and empirical legal studies. His independently authored works have appeared or will appear in highly selective peer-reviewed journals such as the American Journal of Comparative Law, American Business Law Journal, American Bankruptcy Law Journal, International Review of Law and Economics, European Business Organization Law Review, Journal of Environmental Law,  Journal of Corporate Law Studies, Peking University Law Journal(中外法學), Global Law Review(環球法律評論), Political Science and Law(政治與法律), and Hong Kong Law Journal, as well as leading student-edited law reviews such as the Columbia Journal of Asian Law, N.Y.U. Journal of Law and Business, University of Pennsylvania Journal of International Law, Berkeley Business Law Journal, Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law, and Review of Banking and Financial Law. His doctoral dissertation, State Ownership as a Substitute for Costly Regulation, was supported by the Oscar M. Reubhausen Fund at Yale Law School and is currently under contract for publication by Cambridge University Press. He has also conducted research on Chinese corporate law supported by the Early Career Scheme of the Research Grant Council of Hong Kong, China.

Professor Zeng graduated from Yale Law School with an LL.M and a J.S.D. degree. Prior to that Professor Zeng graduated from Peking University (LL.B., B.A. in Economics, Mphil in Law). He passed the National Judicial Examination of China and is admitted to the New York State Bar. Prior to joining HKU, he served as a tenured Associate Professor of Law, Convenor of the Faculty Seminar Series, Deputy Executive Director of the Center for Comparative and Transnational Law, and Deputy Director of the LLM Program at the Faculty of Law, Chinese University of Hong Kong.

HKU Law Welcomes Prof. David Winterton

Welcome to Prof. David Winterton, who joins the Faculty of Law as an Associate Professor.

David is an Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong, with a specialization in contract law, commercial remedies, restitution and private law theory. He has published in several leading academic journals, as well as a monograph based on his doctrinal dissertation, entitled Money Awards in Contract Law (Bloomsbury 2015), which was shortlisted for the St Petersburg International Legal Forum Private Law Prize in 2018. His work has also been cited in various judicial decisions, including in the ultimate appellate courts of Australia and Canada.

Prior to his arrival in Hong Kong, David was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney, and prior to that a Lecturer at UNSW and a stipendiary lecturer at St Anne’s College, Oxford. He holds a BSc (Pure Mathematics) and an LLB from UNSW and a BCL (Dist), MPhil and DPhil from the University of Oxford. Additionally, David has spent some time in legal practice in both Sydney (commercial litigation) and New York (Bankruptcy & Restructuring). He is admitted as a legal practitioner in NSW (2006) and as an Attorney in New York (2012).

HKU Law Welcomes Ms. Lea-Anne Lee

Welcome to Ms. Lea-Anne Lee, who joins the Faculty of Law as a Senior Lecturer.

Lea-Anne graduated from University College London and obtained her Postgraduate Certificate in Laws at the University of Hong Kong. She was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales and Hong Kong.

During her extensive private practice with Hogan Lovells, Clifford Chance and Freshfields in London and Hong Kong, she specialised in advising financial institutions on mergers and acquisitions and financial laws and regulations. Her clients included the full spectrum of participants in financial services including retail and investment banks, insurers, asset managers, fund houses, brokers and intermediaries.

Since the Global Financial Crisis in 2008, Lea-Anne undertook various senior management roles in house advising on domestic and cross border legal, compliance and regulatory aspects on restructuring, business controls and risk management for various international financial services operations in Asia Pacific (covering China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Korea, India, Taiwan, Australia as well as various South East Asian countries), including ABN AMRO, Credit Suisse/UBS and Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. She was responsible for navigating regulatory affairs and handling critical and large scale interactions with domestic regulators and international college of supervisors.

At the University of Hong Kong, her main focus of teaching is on financial laws and regulations. She looks forward to sharing her deep experience on the financial industry’s practice and compliance issues.

Welcome the new Global Academic Fellow Dr Suhong Yang!

Welcome to Dr Suhong Yang who joined the Faculty of Law as a Global Academic Fellow. Dr. Suhong Yang is an international lawyer interested in criminal law, human rights, and environmental law issues. Her S.J.D. dissertation investigates the legitimacy of international and hybrid criminal tribunals that try atrocity crimes in post-conflict situations. Suhong was awarded as a David D. Caron Fellow and a Salzburg Cutler Fellow for her research. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in the Chinese Journal of International Law, Denver Journal of International Law & Policy, European Papers, George Mason International Law Journal, International Legal Materials, and Proceedings of the ASIL Annual Meeting.

At the HKU Faculty of Law, Suhong is engaged in teaching activities and assisting the Director of the Centre for Comparative and Public Law in research-related activities. Prior to joining the HKU, Suhong was a Judicial Fellow at the International Court of Justice, working with Judge H.E. XUE Hanqin. She also served the Office of the President of the U.N. International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, and the Legal Policy Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Suhong holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Renmin University of China, and LL.M. and S.J.D. degrees from Georgetown University Law Center. In addition to the academic degrees, she also studied at the University of Oxford, Kathmandu School of Law, and Cheng-Chi University (Taiwan) in different capacities. Suhong has facilitated teaching or been invited to give guest lectures on tort law, international law, US law, and Chinese law at Georgetown University, Leiden University, and Renmin University.

Suhong is currently Vice-Chair of the International Criminal Law Interest Group of the American Society of International Law (ASIL), and Secretary of ASIL Women in International Law Interest Group. She served as Co-Chair of ASIL New Professionals Interest Group from 2019 to 2023.

Welcome the new Global Academic Fellow Dr Alex Zhicheng Huang!

Welcome to Dr Alex Zhicheng Huang who joined the Faculty of Law as a Global Academic Fellow. Dr Alex Huang’s research focuses on bankruptcy law, corporate law, judicial behavior, and the application of economics and data science to legal questions. His current projects involve the use of network analysis and natural language processing to examine a large number of judicial opinions related to Chapter 11 reorganization. He explores computational doctrinal analysis to examines the content of law—legal reasoning and justification—in an empirical way. Computational doctrinal analysis sets itself apart from both the outcome-oriented empirical legal studies and the case study-driven doctrinal analysis. Additionally, he is interested in the role of courts, judicial performance evaluation, and public trust in the judiciary, particularly the impacts of new technologies like artificial intelligence on these fields.

His writings have appeared in the Emory Bankruptcy Developments Journal and Research of Institutional Economics, and he has contributed chapters to several books. His research has been featured in several media outlets and academic blogs including the Financial Times, The Deal, Reorg, Oxford Business Law Blog, and Harvard Law School Bankruptcy Roundtable. He has received several research awards, including the Best Paper Award at the Annual Law and Economics Conference in China and the Most Innovative Presentation Award at the INSOL ERA Annual Workshop.

Dr Alex Huang holds a JSD and LLM from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was named to the Dean’s List. He was also a Lloyd M. Robbins Fellow at the Berkeley School of Law and a Berkeley Empirical Legal Studies Fellow at the Berkeley Center for the Study of Law and Society. He earned his Bachelor of Laws from Sun Yat-sen University, where he received the China National Scholarship.

Before teaching Cross-border Insolvency Law at HKU Law, he taught Law and Economics I & II, Sociology of Law, Law in Chinese Society, and Fundamentals of U.S. Law as a lecturer and graduate student instructor in the legal studies program and the law school at UC Berkeley.

Huang is also a Research Associate at the Sun Yat-sen University Law and Economics Research Center, where he serves as a co-investigator for a key project funded by the National Social Science Fund of China.

Welcome the new Global Academic Fellow Dr Pangyue Cheng!

Welcome to Dr Pangyue Cheng who joined the Faculty of Law as a Global Academic Fellow. Dr. Pangyue Cheng is a legal scholar focusing on corporate law, financial regulation, and AI governance. Her research interests encompass institutional stewardship, corporate governance, sustainability, and AI regulation. Pangyue’s work explores the legal challenges companies face in a rapidly changing global environment, particularly how shifts in investor roles, technological advancements, and increasing sustainability demands shape corporate governance and regulatory practices. Her research has been published in international law reviews and peer-reviewed journals such as the Columbia Business Law Review and the European Business Law Review.

Currently, Pangyue’s research focuses on the intersection of corporate governance, sustainability, and technological innovation. She examines how institutional investors foster corporate responsibility and long-term value creation through ESG integration. Additionally, her research on AI governance addresses the opportunities and legal challenges that emerging technologies pose to corporate systems and governance frameworks.

Pangyue holds a Bachelor of Laws from Beijing Normal University, an LLM in Corporate and Financial Services Law, and a PhD from the National University of Singapore, where she researched institutional stewardship in Chinese listed companies. Her work on ESG integration and corporate sustainability was fully funded by the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale University. She has been invited to share her research at esteemed institutions, including Yale University, Harvard University, the University of Michigan, the Edinburgh Centre for Commercial Law, the Society of Legal Scholars, and the American Society of Comparative Law.

Pangyue currently teaches China Company Law and Securities Regulation at the HKU Faculty of Law. She was a Fox International Fellow at Yale University and worked as a researcher on several projects at the National University of Singapore Law School. Before entering academia, she practiced law in mainland China and served as legal counsel for a listed AI company.

HKU Law Welcomes Prof. Trevor Wan

Welcome to Prof. Trevor Wan, who joins the Faculty of Law as an Assistant Professor.

Trevor T. W. Wan is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, The University of Hong Kong (HKU), where he serves as Deputy Director of the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Government and Laws) and Bachelor of Laws dual degree programme.

His research harnesses interdisciplinary approaches drawn mainly from political science, among other fields, to study comparative constitutional and administrative law, coronial law and forensic jurisprudence. His work has appeared, or is forthcoming, in leading peer-reviewed periodicals including the International Journal of Constitutional Law, Public Law, German Law Journal, Judicial Review, Asian Journal of Comparative Law, Statute Law Review, and Journal of Criminal Law.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Trevor holds an LL.M. from Harvard Law School where he was the Hong Kong Jockey Club Fellow, and an LL.B. and a B.Soc.Sc. in Government and Laws from HKU, both with First Class Honours. He is a member of the International Society of Public Law and the British Institute of International and Comparative Law. He currently serves as an Associate Editor of the Hong Kong Law Journal, the flagship faculty journal of HKU Law.

HKU Law Welcomes Prof. Julian Nowag

Welcome to Prof. Julian Nowag, who joins the Faculty of Law as an Associate Professor.

Julian is an Associate Professor at HKU and Lund University, Sweden, specializing in competition law. He is a leading scholar in sustainability and is currently working on the intersection between AI and competition. His recent work with Thomas K Cheng on  Algorithmic Predation and Exclusion won a Concurrence Award in 2023. Julian is also an Associate at the Oxford Centre for Competition Law and Policy and serves as a managing editor of The Journal for Antitrust Enforcement (OUP). He has authored and edited several books, including Environmental Integration in Competition and Free-Movement Laws  (OUP 2016), Intersections Between Corporate and Antitrust Law (eds. with Marco Corradi) (CUP 2024), Research Handbook on Sustainability and Competition Law  (ed) (Edward Elgar 2024), and Global Antitrust and Sustainability: law, economics, enforcement (OUP forthcoming 2024/25). 

Julian earned his Master’s degree (MSt) and doctorate (DPhil) from the University of Oxford. He also completed an LLM in European Legal Studies at Durham University and undergraduate law studies in Germany and Austria. At Lund University, he was the director of the master’s programme in European Business Law and taught courses on competition and various areas of EU law. Julian also taught EU law and competition law at Oxford and gave lectures and seminars on EU law, comparative law, and competition law in various European, Asian, and Latin American universities and institutions.

Julian is a qualified lawyer in Germany, with professional training that focused on competition law. He completed placements at the German Competition Authority’s international co-operation unit, the European Commission (DG Comp, cartels unit), and Allen & Overy’s German Antitrust unit in Hamburg.

HKU Law Welcomes Prof. Adrian Kuenzler

Welcome to Prof. Adrian Kuenzler, who joins the Faculty of Law as an Associate Professor.

Adrian Kuenzler is Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law and Affiliate Fellow at the Information Society Project, Yale Law School. His research focuses on technology, innovation policy and competition, and examines problems in antitrust, intellectual property and consumer law from a comparative and interdisciplinary perspective. Adrian graduated from the University of Zürich (M.A., Ph.D.) and from Yale Law School (LL.M., J.S.D.). He has served as a Professor in the Faculty of Law at Zürich University and has held visiting academic positions at New York University School of Law, the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods, Yale Law School, ETH Zürich, the European University Institute, the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society and Oxford University. Adrian has held visiting professorship positions at Universidad de San Andrés (Buenos Aires) and the University of Münster. He has also been a Robert S. Campbell Visiting Fellow at Magdalen College, Oxford.

Adrian’s research on technology and digital markets is regularly relied on by governments and international organizations in debates around the interplay of competition law and data privacy and his work on how the design of online platforms shapes users’ behavior has been drawn upon by policymakers, think tanks and news outlets in different jurisdictions.

Adrian has received a number of prizes for his teaching and research, including the Young Scholar Prize of the International Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy and the University of Zürich Certificate of Distinction in Teaching. He has received major research grants and fellowships for his work from the Swiss National Science Foundation and Society in Science, among others. Adrian has also been invited to serve as an independent expert in international court proceedings.

HKU Law Welcomes Prof. Kelvin F.K. Low

Welcome to Prof. Kelvin F.K. Low, who joins the Faculty of Law as a Professor. 

Kelvin read law at the National University of Singapore and Oxford University. Before his current appointment at the University of Hong Kong, he held previous appointments at National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University, and City University of Hong Kong. 

Kelvin's research interest spans the field of private law but with a particular interest in property, broadly defined. He has published internationally with leading journals such as the American Journal of Comparative Law, the International & Comparative Law Quarterly, Legal Studies, Lloyd’s Maritime and Commercial Law Quarterly, the Law Quarterly Review, the Melbourne University Law Review, and the Modern Law Review. He is a co-author (together with Michael Bridge, Louise Gullifer, and Gerard McMeel) of the 2nd and 3rd editions of The Law of Personal Property, and co-author (together with Tang Hang Wu) of the 3rd and 4th editions of Tan Sook Yee’s Principles of Singapore Land Law. His works have been cited by the courts in Australia, Canada, England and Wales, Hong Kong SAR, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Singapore as well as law commissions and law reform bodies in Australia, England and Wales, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, and Singapore.

HKU Law Welcomes Prof. Florence Lee

Welcome to Prof. Florence Lee, who joins the Faculty of Law as an Assistant Professor. Florence completed her DPhil at the St Antony’s College, University of Oxford. Prior to her DPhil, Florence obtained her MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice (with Distinction) at the Worcester College, University of Oxford and her BA from Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge, graduating with double first class honours.

Florence teaches and conducts research in criminal law and criminal justice issues. She is interested in theoretical criminal law, criminal justice, sentencing as well as questions around risk, security and justice. She has published in journals including the Criminal Law Review and Sentencing News, and she has contributed a chapter to Precursor Crimes of Terrorism: The Criminalisation of Terrorism Risk in Comparative Perspective (Edward Elgar Publishing). She is a certified mediator and was called to the English Bar as a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 2020.

HKU Law Welcomes Prof. Weilin Xiao

Welcome to Prof. Weilin Xiao, who joins the Faculty of Law as an Assistant Professor.

Weilin Xiao’s academic interests include family law, comparative law, and legal history, with a focus on the East Asian region. In 2021, Weilin’s paper, “Expansion and Restriction: A Comparative Study of Modernization of Family Laws in Japan and China,” was awarded the Colin B. Picker Graduate Prize by the American Society of Comparative Law.

His J.S.D. dissertation, currently undergoing revision for publication as a monograph, concerns the divergent approaches toward modernizing family laws in Japan and China. Through a comparative perspective, Weilin seeks to answer why Japan and China coordinated legal transplantation and their own customary family laws differently, and how such choices shaped the modernization of those countries in the twentieth century.

Weilin obtained his J.S.D. degree from Yale Law School in 2024, following his LL.M. degree earned in 2019. Weilin was a Yale Legal History Forum Fellow in 2023. During the 2022–2023 academic year, Weilin was a Yale Fox International Fellow at the School of Law, Waseda University. He spent the 2019–2020 academic year as a Visiting Researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia, the University of Tokyo, under the International Dissertation Research Fellowship awarded by the Yale MacMillan Center. Prior to Yale, Weilin completed his LL.B. and first LL.M. degree at Peking University.

HKU Law Welcomes Prof. Craig Purshouse

Welcome to Prof. Craig Purshouse, who joins the Faculty of Law as an Associate Professor. Craig is also a Research Fellow in the Centre for Medical Ethics and Law at the University of Hong Kong. Before joining HKU, he was a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Liverpool and, before that held lectureships at Liverpool and the University of Leeds.

Craig’s research interests are in the law of torts and medical law, with a particular focus on the area where they overlap: medical negligence. He has published widely on his research interests in a range of leading generalist and specialist law journals, as well as editing and contributing to edited collections of essays.

Craig’s research has been cited by the UK Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal of Singapore, the High Court of England and Wales, the English and Scottish Law Commissions and in the UK Parliament. While at Liverpool, Craig was the joint editor-in-chief of the journal Medical Law International and remains a member of the editorial board. He was also previously on the editorial board of the Medical Law Review.

Craig completed his LLB in Law at the University of Sheffield and his MA and PhD at the University of Manchester.

HKU Law Welcomes Dr Massimo Lando, Assistant Professor

Welcome to Dr Massimo Lando, who joins the Faculty of Law as an Assistant Professor. Dr Lando is a general international lawyer. Before joining HKU, he was Assistant Professor at the School of Law of City University of Hong Kong (2020-2023). Previously, he was an Associate Legal Officer at the International Court of Justice, working with Judge Dalveer Bhandari and Judge ad hoc Charles N. Brower (2017-2020). Dr Lando completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge. He obtained an LLM also from the University of Cambridge and an LLB from the University of Milan. He is a member the Bar of England and Wales (Gray’s Inn). Dr Lando is a Global Fellow at the Centre for International Law of the National University of Singapore. He will be Director of Studies at the 2027 Winter Session of The Hague Academy of International Law.

HKU Law Welcomes Mr Edward Lui, Assistant Professor

Welcome to Mr Edward Lui who joined the Faculty of Law as an Assistant Professor. Edward’s research examines administrative law and public law-related themes in healthcare law. He completed the LLB and PCLL programmes at the University of Hong Kong and the BCL programme at the University of Oxford, where he is currently completing his DPhil. His existing research has been published in a number of academic journals – including the Law Quarterly Review, Medical Law Review, Oxford Journal of Legal Studies and Public Law.
