To celebrate the publication of Human Rights: Source, Content and Enforcement, the latest book by Justice Kemal Bokhary, we are pleased to invite you to a sharing session by Justice Bokhary at HKU Law Library.
The session will:
- Identify the source of human rights, namely the human person in which they are inherent;
- Describe their nature, pointing out that they consist of the minimum entitlements which each of us are entitled to expect and must accord so that we may all live and let live with human dignity;
- Point out that in the aftermath of the Second World War, humankind, by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, affirmed its faith in the enforcement of human rights as the surest means of attaining a just world order and thereby world peace;
- Identify the content of human rights civil and political rights, socioeconomic rights and group rights;
- Examine some specific human rights to illustrate human rights in action;
- Discuss the means by which human rights are enforced; and
- Address, with particular reference to Hong Kong, democracy as a human right
This sharing session will be followed by a Q & A and a book signing session. The event was held to a full house on 12 April 2016 and reported on in the South China Morning Post on the next day.
